Helston in Cornwall has a lively, friendly atmosphere with a busy main street and plenty of historical attractions that keep the town’s heritage alive.

At the Square in The Lizard, you will find Velvyn’s Boutique and Gift Shop, who are one of our most ‘traditional’ customers ever. With no website or email system they defy the best practices that most business live by today, and it sets them apart and creates a buzz because of its inherent uniqueness.

We were delighted when they asked us to work with them to produce a bespoke ‘Lizard Lighthouse’ hanging decoration. During the creative process, it’s important to stay in touch and share ideas so we asked for their email address only to be told sorry, we don’t have email…. wow, okay! I have to be honest, we were surprised. How did they do anything? We wanted to make this decoration so if we had a question we picked up the phone (after blowing off the dust) and when we needed to share design ideas, we got an envelope and a stamp and got posting! It might have been a little slower but using the more traditional communication channels has reminded us that it’s good to talk to each other, our postal system is pretty efficient and there is always an answer!

The Lizard Lighthouse was built in 1751, it has distinctive towers that mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. You can visit the Heritage Centre where you can climb the Lighthouse and see the breathtaking views from the top. We’ve loved working on this decoration and Velvyn’s Boutique & Gift Shop is thriving – without a website to buy online or an email system – just gorgeous gifts and a great location in a beautiful part of the world (and a brilliant ceramic hanging decoration supplier!).
