Why it’s made

Established in 2006 by Hampshire based designer Piet van den Beuken and her husband, Monty Abram, Roelofs & Rubens is a successful supplier of handmade and hand decorated blue and white tableware, tiles and hanging decorations.

Piet studied Architectural Design at St Joost Academy of Art Breda and Graphic Design at the Rietveld Academy of Art Amsterdam. Through her own love of ceramics, she discovered a gap in the market for something that was both contemporary in design and practical to use.

Being Dutch, Piet admits that the much-loved Delft Blue of Holland holds a special place in her heart and has influenced her to work with the distinctive blue and white palette, ‘Our wonderful tableware and tile collections are made from excellent quality English earthenware. The striking blue and white colour scheme will complement your home whilst our original and exciting designs bring a fresh Continental look’.

Roelofs & Rubens design ranges can be mixed and matched with each other and with the more traditional patterns we all know so well. It took a year to develop the beautifully unique designs, to experiment with painting techniques, to produce stencils and stamps and to source a genuine English supplier of truly good quality English earthenware bisque and tiles. Working with a small team from their Hampshire Studio, the range has grown and now incudes tiles, hanging decorations and other items like milk jugs, utensil jars, wine coolers, ceramic buttons and plant markers.

Where it’s made

We are based on the Berkshire, Hampshire border, in a lovely studio surrounded by countryside. Our kiln is housed in the ‘Firing Shed’ in the garden – a real cottage industry.

Our nearest major town is Newbury in Berkshire and the M4/A34 Junction 13.

We hold open days and always look forward to welcoming people to our studio. If you would like to visit please call Monty on 01635 253671 to arrange an appointment or take a look at our ‘Events’ page to see where and when we are exhibiting.
