Amazing Delft Tile Workshops

On Friday 5th May 2017 we had a lovely group of people join us at West Berkshire Museum in Newbury for our tile painting workshop.  Piet (Roelofs & Rubens founder, owner & designer) first gave a little talk about the history of Delftware, also known as Delft Blue, which is the charming variety of blue and white ceramic pottery originating from Delft in the Netherlands, and showed examples of the classic tile designs dating from the 16th century.

Our enthusiastic painters started with blank, unglazed ceramic tiles, and learnt all the techniques needed to paint a set of 4 tiles with their own designs. Then the painted masterpieces were taken away to be glazed and fired. Everyone had a great time and the finished tiles are amazing.

We have 2 more workshops coming up at the West Berkshire Museum on Friday 23rd June and 7th July. If you would like to book a place please call the Museum on 01635 519562 or email museum@westberks.gov.uk
